How To Use the Health Skills Toolbox
I designed this health skills toolbox when I realized that my elementary and middle school heatlh students were not quite understanding how the health skills connect to their personal well-being. After creating this health teaching tool, I used it as an illustration that just like we use tools like a drill and hammer to build and create, the health skills are the tools we use to manage and care for our health and well-being.
After introudcing the health skills toolbox concept to students, I use the toolbox as a quick check-in and reminder. For example, when we would talk about a health issue impacting their life (i.e. making poor sleep decisiosn), I would bring out the health skills toolkit and they would use it to identify which health skill(s) could they use to help with the issue (i.e. analyzing influences).
It’s a simple yet powerful health education teaching device that works for any grade! Now, let’s take look at the step-by-step guide on how to make this health skills toolkit (but first, click here to download the printable graphics).
