Help students reinforce healthy habits with this free paper chain printable.

Helping students develop healthy habits is a core learning objective of health teachers everywhere! We all want students to build positive habitual behaviors that boost their health and happiness. As a fun way to help reinforce health-enhancing behaviors, I created this healthy habit paper chain printable. It’s simply a way to highlight the amazing habits students are developing (yay for positive reinforcement).

You can either print these on white paper and have students write any and every healthy habit. Or, if you want to take your health lesson to the next level and further student learning, print off strips on four different colors of paper - one to represent each element of the BEST Model (or eight to represent the different health skills):

  • B - Body

  • E - Environment (and surroundings)

  • S - Self

  • T - (Social) Ties

This is a great way for students to celebrate their healthy habits and to build self-awareness of the dimensions of health impacting their well-being.

You could also set some class goals:

  • Reach a specific number of paper chains

  • Build habits connected to a specific dimension of health and/or health skill

  • Build a healthy habit together as a class (i.e., washing hands before eating, going to bed at X time, not scrolling on the phone in bed, etc.)

Oh, and one other thing, I love that you can use this classroom engagement with any grade level! Elementary, middle, or high school health, you can use this as a teaching tool for all students.
