Sex Ed Sequencing Activity: How Sperm Moves Through the Body
I used this sex ed sequencing activity to teach students about reproduction and how sperm moves through the body. Learning how sperm moves through the body is a key concept to teach in a sex ed curriculum. Understanding how sperm works lays the groundwork for teaching about reproduction (a.k.a. how babies are made) and how to prevent pregnancy. This instant activity can be used to introduce a new concept, a game, or a review. It’s the perfect addition to any sex ed curriculum. Let’s explore how it works.

How the Sequencing Activity Works
After printing, cutting out, and organizing (I like to put them in ziplock bags) sets of the cards, here’s how to use this instant activity in your classroom:
Ask students to get into groups of 2-3 (I tend to let kids choose their own groups, I find that they work better).
Students organize each step in order from what happens first to last.
Debrief as a class.
Debrief and Reflection
After students completed the activity, I shared the correct order, and students checked their work. Then, we debriefed and spent some time reflecting. Here are a few prompts students can discuss after the activity:
What’s something new you learned about the reproductive system?
Now that you understand how sperm moves through the body, how do you think pregnancy can be prevented?
What questions do you still have about how the body works or how pregnancy happens?
Overall, adding this to the Project School Wellness Sex Ed Curriculum worked really well!, especially when combining itwith the Play-Doh activity (reproductive system worksheets). I have a few more sequencing ideas I want to turn into teaching activities!
