Classroom Scavenger Hunt Activity: Introduction to Environmental Health

AN Instant ACTIVITY TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE CONCEPT OF Environmental HEALTH.

One of the core elements of the BEST Model and the Wellness Wheel is Environmental Health. It’s easy to assume that environmental health is all about the physical world around us (i.e. the Earth and nature). Which is true, but it also simply relates to our surroundings and the spaces we live our lives in (i.e. school, community, home, etc.). The spaces we live our lives in are so deeply connected to our well-being because of the way our environment impacts how we feel, think, and act.

How The Classroom Scavenger Hunt Works

This classroom scavenger hunt is a great way to help students build awareness of how their classroom influences their emotions, thoughts, and actions.

Here’s how to do the activity:

  • Print and cut out the cards; keep all of the cards in one pile.

  • Each student starts with one card. When you say go, complete the task on the card. When they’re done, they return their card and get a new one.

  • Repeat until students have completed the task on the card (or whenever you feel like it’s done)

  • Debrief as a class

Activity Defrief and Reflection

To debrief, come together as a class to chat about the experience. Take time to intentionally talk about the environments in their life and how their surroundings impact how they feel, think, and act.
