Five Awkward-Proof Sex Ed Lesson Plans for Health Class
Looking for awkward-proof sex ed resources for your next human development and sexuality unit? I've got you covered! Here are five comprehensive sex ed resources I've used with middle and high schoolers, in my university sexuality class, and during parent workshops. They're an interactive and fun way to introduce medically accurate sexual health knowledge.
Table of Contents
Play-Doh: Sexual and Reproductive Anatomy Reproduction Printables
This is the first sex ed activity I start with, no matter the age group! There are two reasons I always start here:
First, all sex ed conversations build off of a medically accurate understanding of sexual and reproductive anatomy.
Second, the hands-on Play-Doh approach takes all the awkwardness away because they're too busy working with their hands. Plus, the hands-on learning helps the knowledge stick!
Puzzle: Sexuality Gingerbread Person
The sexuality gingerbread person puzzle is a great way to introduce students to the concept of sexuality. The puzzle works as a powerful reminder of how a person's sexuality is made up of many parts.
Sequencing: How Sperm Moves Through the Body
If we want to teach students how to prevent pregnancy, you gotta know how sperm moves through the body. This quick sequencing activity works well with the sexual and reproductive anatomy Play-Doh mats.
Friendship Bracelet: The Menstrual Cycle
I absolutely love the menstrual cycle friendship bracelet activity! It was such a fun way to represent how this biological process is a continuous cycle!
Sorting: What is Sexual Health?
This sorting activity is a fun way to introduce students to the idea that sexual health isn't just about having sex. Students quickly see that sexual health is a holistic aspect of life.
