How the “Find Someone Who” Instant Activity Works
This print and go activity is so easy, and even better, it’s meaningful as it introduces students to the SHAPE America health skills!
Simply download and print off (I printed x2 per page and cut them down the middle) the health worksheet and pass them out to your class. All students had to do was find someone who met the criteria for each box. I just set the rule that each classmate could only sign another student’s page once (to encourage talking and connecting to everyone).
An Introduction to the SHAPE America Health Skills
Not only did students have fun with this instant activity, it was also great way to introduce students to the SHAPE America health skills:
SHAPE America Standard #1: Build & Apply Knowledge
SHAPE America Standard #2: Analyzing Influences
SHAPE America Standard #3: Access Resources
SHAPE America Standard #4: Interpersonal Communication
SHAPE America Standard #5: Decision Making
SHAPE America Standard #6: Goal Setting
SHAPE America Standard #7: Self-Management
SHAPE America Standard #8: Advocacy
Each box on the health worksheet features a prompt related to one of these health skills. The goal as students interact with their classmates was to build awareness of where each skill organically shows up in their lives.
After they found classmates to sign each box, there were some secret clues (a.k.a. the random capitalized letters) to decode.
Activity Debrief and Reflection
When students were done, they took a moment to debrief. You can use the health skills toolbox to review the eight health skills. This instant activity would also be a great entry task for the Health Skills Learning Adventure.
Here are a few discussion prompts students could explore as they reflect:
Which skill were you surprised that you actually use in real life?
Which skill do you think is most important?
Which skill(s) do you want to get better at?
Overall, this instant activity is a great way to kick off learning about the health skills!
